Finegold Alexander is working closely with The Community Group on the design of a new 53,000 SF facility in Lawrence, MA. The new building will be used by the Community Day Charter Public School's upper school while also serving the wider TCG community through after-school programs, athletics, and youth summer activities. The project is on schedule to be completed in March 2027.

Who is The Community Group: The Community Group was founded on the principle that quality early education and care are essential to opportunity. Since opening a single preschool center in 1970, The Community Group has grown to meet the changing needs of Greater Lawrence with award-winning educational programs for children and families, also offering robust training and professional development for educators.

Located on a beautiful former farm site, the facility will include instructional space, offices, gymnasium, cafeteria, playing fields and outdoor learning areas for a seamless connection to nature. When complete, The Community Group will have a new space that meets their educational mission of fostering student success, celebrating diversity and enhancing the learning experience for the entire Lawrence community.

The design process was an iterative and collaborative process as The Community Group's project team held focus groups and met with stakeholders from The Community Group's programs as well as Community Day Charter Public School. The feedback gathered resulted in the final design of new facility which features nature-inspired color palette to reinforce the natural elements of the farm's setting. The materiality and building massing blends in with characteristics of the site to create an open connection from indoor to outdoor.
