Architect

Rick is an Architect who received his BFA in Architecture from his home state of Maine, before relocating to Boston in 2016 to pursue his Master of Architecture at the BAC. Having worked across numerous building types in numerous sectors through all phases, Rick values projects that engage the public or that provide amenity space for their surrounding community.

Rick was drawn to architecture for both its creative and technical components and particularly enjoys devising bespoke solutions to everyday design challenges. While embracing new technologies and contemporary modes of representation Rick still enjoys free hand and constructed line drawing and hand rendering.

When not consumed with most things architecture, Rick enjoys helping his wife in gardens around the house, working on various DIY updates to their 1910 craftsman home in Hyde Park, exploring around New England searching for used bookshops along the way, and travelling internationally touring as many art galleries and museums they can manage to squeeze into a trip.

Need to Know

Favorite thing about your career? Architecture has always appealed to me for the ability to work both creatively and technically, to be in an office or on a project site, working with passionate committed people, and being able to make positive and impactful changes on peoples day-to-day lives

Favorite thing about Boston’s North End? It is probably cliché, but the ‘old world’ charm. I think it’s scientifically proven that pizza and cannoli’s (if not enjoyed in Italy itself) taste better when eaten in the Prado and surrounded by the vestiges of Boston’s revolutionary past.

Proudest accomplishment? Winning a statewide painting contest for primary school children in my home state of Maine as a first grader! My portrait painting was put on exhibit at the Maine Art Museum for a month. I was so young (6?) I barely remember the process, or receiving the letter announcing I had been selected, but in retrospect I’m always excited for my younger self.

Any hobbies? Gardening with my wife, running when I can muster the motivation, “wood working/” making DIY updates around the house, and drawing and painting between house projects
