2 Clarendon Square
Boston, Massachusetts |
Square Footage: 400,000
Construction Cost: $45 million |
The Clarendon Street Baptist Church, located in Boston’s South End, was a burned out shell following a devastating fire in 1982. FA+A was commissioned to redesign the building for a new use as residential condominiums. By restoring the badly damaged exterior walls, dating from 1868, and constructing a new steel frame building entirely within the shell, FA+A successfully respected the original structure and established a new image for the building. The seven-story building has 60 condominiums, with a mix of studio, one- and two-bedroom units, and 13 indoor parking spaces. |
