Methuen High School Makeover Groundbreaking
METHUEN, Massachusetts – July 12, 2011 – The City of Methuen celebrated the groundbreaking of a new addition and renovations to the existing Methuen High School today – the last open plan high school in the Commonwealth to be renovated. State Treasurer Steven Grossman, Methuen Mayor William Manzi, III and the Superintendent of Schools Judith Scannell welcomed the community to celebrate this investment in the children of Methuen.
Architects Finegold Alexander + Associates Inc were contracted in June 2009 to study options to address the high school’s facilities needs. Following the recommendation of the feasibility study, the City voted to commence the renovation and 50,000 square-foot expansion of the existing 325,000 square-foot 1975 high school building. The Methuen community as well as students and staff of the high school have been involved with Finegold Alexander in shaping the expansion and transformation of the 36-year-old building. The groundbreaking represents the next step in bringing from the drawing boards to life a brighter, more energy efficient learning environment. The result will provide an enriched learning environment and reduced resource consumption through the application of sustainable design strategies.
